Cost: $30 per family per group
What We Do: In our sessions, we’ll use music therapy techniques such as instrument play, song re-creation, and improvisation to support socialization goals. Activities might include passing instruments on a specific word in a song, moving to the rhythm, or relaxing to soothing melodies—each tailored to meet the group’s unique needs. Through playful songs, movement and rhythm activities, you'll strengthen the bond with your child while supporting their early development. This interactive session promotes sensory exploration, language skills, and social connection in a welcoming environment. No music experience is needed-- Just bring your voice, enthusiasm, and love for your little one! Please see some key goals for the group below:
1. Enhance Bonding: Strengthen the emotional connection between caregivers and children through shared musical activities and physical closeness.
2. Support Early Development: Foster cognitive, motor, and language development through rhythm, repetition, and musical interaction, which helps build neural pathways in young children.
3. Encourage Sensory Exploration: Introduce children to various sounds, textures (instruments), and movements, promoting sensory awareness and development.
4. Promote Social Interaction: Help children and caregivers engage with others in a group setting, encouraging ealy social skills like turn-taking, eye contact, and responsiveness to social cues.
5. Develop Early Communication Skills: Encourage language development by exposing children to new words, sounds, and melodies, supporting early speech and comprehension.
6. Cultivate Emotional Expression: Provide a safe space for children to explore and express emotions through music, movement and interaction.
7. Build Caregiver Confidence: Empower caregivers with ideas and tools to continue musical play at home, fostering ongoing developmental support and strengthening their role as a primary teacher in their child's life.
8. Foster Creativity & Imagination: Encourage children to explore and create, which stimulates imagination and creativity from an early age.
These goals work together to support the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development of young children while nurturing the caregiver-child relationship.
Who Is Your Group Leader?: Melissa Rink, Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). Read her bio below:
As a board-certified music therapist, I am passionate about helping clients and their families connect through music. My approach is grounded in a person-centered, humanistic, and neurodiversity-affirming framework, where I prioritize creating a safe and nurturing environment where parents, caregivers, and children can express themselves freely.
I have valuable experience working in a variety of settings, including pediatrics, early intervention, mental health, and memory care. Through my work at a children’s hospital, I had the privilege of supporting children of all ages, including babies in the NICU, young toddlers, and their families. In this role, I supported families through highly stressful times, offering comfort and solace through carefully tailored music therapy interventions. These interventions were designed to soothe, engage, and bring joy to both the child and their families.I am excited to combine my passion for music with my love for working with families through the Music and Me group. This is a unique opportunity to support caregivers and children in building meaningful connections, fostering development, and sharing joyful, musical experiences together.
