Welcome to the whimsical world of mushrooms and fungi!
In this Friendship in the Feld early years workshop, children ages 3-6 will celebrate Autumn with an exploration of the forest floor through open-ended art, story and sensory play.
Together, we will bring mushrooms to life with paint, recyclables, natural materials and airdry sculpting clay!
This gentle flow of activities offers children the chance to connect socially, build early literacy skills, and express themselves through open-ended art and creative connection—all within a warm, joyful community space.

This workshop nurtures:

💞 Social-emotional growth - Through group play and Circle Time connection

🧠 Early literacy - Listening to story and folk tales during circle time

🎨 Creativity and confidence - Children will have the opportunity to follow their creative insticts through process-based art

🌿 Material exploration - Curiosity and STEM thinking while discovering textures, and examining the changing season

⏱️This Session's Agenda:
The workshop will begin with welcome sensory play and creative activity to warm up. We will have a short circle time, featuring a themed read-aloud and a fun movement activity to help kids warm up and connect. After that, children will dive into the art-making process. If children finish their art work early, or need a break mid-session, a cozy, sensory bin free play, and reading area will also be available.

Further information: We will provide all craft and sensory materials as well as a caring and nurturing environment for safe and supported learning. We suggest you feed your child a small snack before the session, but we will have some dry goods (rice crackers, raisins) on-site just in case. We will also be providing coffee and tea for caregivers to enjoy while their children learn. We ask parents stay on-site in case their child is struggling to join, or having big feelings, but otherwise we invite adults in attendance to sit back, relax, and socialise. There is a toilet available for patrons but no changing table.

Who we are: Meggie and Raela are your teachers with Friendship in the Feld, an early childhood development program providing play-based educational workshops for children. We are two early childhood educators with more than 20 years of combined experience with young children. Through sensory experiences, art exploration and child-led play, we aim to support social-emotional learning and help develop community and school readiness skills.
