About this Event

The training will be led by Heather Lomas who will guide us through a whole day thinking about the role of museums and how they operate, including sector standards, the legal stuff, accessibility, engagement and much more. If you’ve recently joined the sector, are new to museums, have a role as a museum trustee or volunteer, or are already working in museums but feel that you need a refresher this course is for you.

Topics we will include are:

Museum standards

• What are museums for? – definitions, ethics, public benefit, community, place making, protecting heritage for future generations, collections.

• The museum landscape - governance models, types of museums, the place of museums in the cultural sector, networks and support, finances and funding.

• Standards in museums

• Museums and people, trustees, staff, volunteers

The Museum Environment

• Accessibility, inclusion and diversity

• Delivering first class visitor experiences

• Community engagement and participation

Please Note: This event is catered. There will be a selection of tea, coffee and sandwiches available on the day.

Maximum two delegates per organisation. Priority will be given to delegates from non-NPO and non-National museums in the Midlands which are Accredited or officially Working Towards Accreditation. However, if you are considering starting the process of working towards accreditation please contact us about booking a place as we are very keen to provide this training to everyone who may benefit from it.
