Take in the holiday season at the Seton Shrine for Frederick County’s Museums by Candlelight program on December 13th between the hours of 10am-5:00pm. Visit our Basilica, Museum and Visitor Center to learn more about the life of Elizabeth Ann Seton and enjoy hands on, seasonal, family friendly activities. Visit our tastefully decorated historic homes where Mother Seton lived to experience our Living History program. Step back in time and enter Elizabeth Ann Seton’s world during the Advent Season of 1818 to meet her Sisters and students and see how they observe the Season. Contemplate and cherish the meaning of the season along with those she loved.

Visitor Center 10am-5pm:
Learn about Elizabeth Ann Seton’s connection to Our Lady of Guadalupe at our family friendly Hands on History table. Make a paper rose and take a moment for your own faith to bloom.
Behind the Artifacts with Archives: Visit our Saint Gallery to learn more about our collections and the amazing stories behind them.
The Stone House 10am-4pm: See where Elizabeth Ann Seton founded her Sisterhood and learn about the Christmas of 1809, the only Christmas the Sisters spent in the Stone House.
The White House 10am- 4:30pm: Step into Mother Seton’s home and Girl’s School to see how her community observed advent by cherishing the gift of God’s Son. Join the Sisters and students from her world for a seasonal choral recitation at 11am, a play about Juan Diego and Our Lady of Gaudalupe at 2pm and prayers in the chapel at 3:30pm. Tours with first-person interpreters portraying Elizabeth Ann Seton’s Sisters of Charity and students as well as demonstrations of seasonal handwork traditions will be available throughout the entire event.
