Join us for our Museum Open Day, celebrating the 150th anniversary of our Spanish and Portuguese synagogue and the history of its communities.Explore the exciting new exhibitions in our galleries, sharing the history of our 1874 Sephardi synagogue and the stories of the communities who are part of this remarkable building. Discover more Sephardim stories through beautiful objects from Jewish Museum London and the Moor Lane synagogue - returned to the building after 40 years.
Take part in creative activities! Make your own tote bag and key ring in our Learning Studio to celebrate being part of the synagogue's 150th anniversary. Get a glimpse at the time capsule we have been making with our museum communities. See the beautiful creative works including a recipe book, song, textile piece and music box. There's still time to make your mark on the capsule and become part of history!
Try Sephardi food from our museum's Cafe, inspired by stories from our vast collections.
At 2:30pm we are inviting you to join us in the synagogue to celebrate the building's 150th birthday with us.
Hear talks from the museum's staff and board members as well as guest speakers from the Moor Lane Synagogue. Watch musical performances celebrating Sephardi culture and listen to the new song, written by the museum's Songwriting Group together with Cheetham Brownies. The ceremony will culminate with a special cantorial performance.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
This event is open to all ages. All tickets must be booked in advance.
All activities happening on the day are free and you can drop in anytime. Our Cafe will be open for refreshments throughout the day.
During the Time Capsule ceremony there will be both standing and seating spaces. Please e-mail [email protected] in advance with any access requirements.
We have a bag search policy and all large bags (rucksacks, suitcases etc.) will be searched. We are unable to store bags and we would advise not bringing large bags with you when you visit.
