You’re invited to Museum After Hours on Friday, Nov. 14, where we continue to celebrate the life, work, and legacy of our hero of cultural preservation, Mary Kawena Pukui.Join us as we pay tribute to Pukui’s beloved homeland of Kaʻū — the place that formed her understanding of the world, her knowledge of our customs and practices, and her deep awareness of both the natural and spiritual realms.
Special programming within historic Hawaiian Hall include the joyful voices of Kamehameha Schools Children’s Choir; a talk story with beloved musician and cultural advocate Myrna Kamae; a panel discussion featuring kupuna lineal descendants of Kaʻū; and the presentation “Kaʻū Through Kawena’s Eyes,” a talk story with Pukui’s grandson, Laʻakea Suganuma, that includes entries from his personal journal recounting a trip he took with his grandmother to Kaʻū.
