Murkwood is a monthly celebration of soundsystem music (dubstep, garage, dnb, etc) and the culture around it. Join us for our April installment as we host a very overdue re-welcoming of Canadian producer Wraz!
Who is Wraz?
Hailing from Montreal, Canada, Christophe Pilon, better known as Wraz is a producer and DJ whose sound goes into the deep & dark side of Dubstep, Grime, Drum & Bass and Halftime, featuring fat analog synths, mythical melodies and unstoppable flow on the drums. With releases on Deadbeats, Deep Dark & Dangerous, Artikal Music, 4NCY/Darkmode, Duploc, and other labels across the globe, his unique sound really stands out, being in perfect harmony with the sound system.
Wraz has been making waves all over North-America recently, playing at festivals such as Shambhala Music Festival (CA), Lightning in a Bottle (US), Infrasound Music Festival (US), Sound Haven (US); and playing numerous shows in cities all over the continent, both as a headliner and lending support to mainstays in the scene like Zeds Dead, Caspa, Truth, Ganja White Night, and more. His collaborations with UK rappers and MCs (PAV4N, Strategy, Snowy, Magugu, Illaman, Fugzii) mark the link between his style and the UK dubstep/140 scene, demonstrating a perfect blend between his music and all these amazing artists. His debut in the UK was also a success with shows in London and Bristol.
Wraz is active in the online community as well -- not just through his own releases (singles, EPs and one full album), but also by hosting livestreams. Wraz, alongside fellow Canadian producer Substance, hosts a weekly show on Twitch called Gunfingaz Thursdays that, over the past few years, has grown a strong global community and guest-features a wide array of producers in the dubstep community -- both global staples and up-and-comers alike. During COVID, he participated at 4 of the legendary Deep Dark & Dangerous Quarantine Sessions, with over 2.6k live viewers during his sets.
The Canadian producer started making music full-time in 2012, when he started studying music at college (jazz drum and classical piano), then university (composition), and he has now finished his master’s degree (conducting). While always exploring new techniques of sound design and arrangement, he developed a very unique sound that can be heard throughout his entire catalog.
We're proud to welcome Wraz back to our stage -- this is the second time he'll be performing with us, the first being in March in 2022 as our very first international headliner for the Murkwood series!
