Please join us for a DG Footlights™ reading of the full-length play Murdered Teacher Speaks Out by Guillermo Reyes. Featuring performances by Erika Acuña, Leroy Hood, Dane Futrell, Nico Hernandez, Toni Martin-Hanson, Isabel Ramirez, and Tim Nipper. A talk back with the playwright will occur after the reading facilitated by DG Phoenix Ambassador Sally Jane Kerschen-Sheppard.
About the play...
A Mexican woman in the U.S. as a Spanish teacher gets murdered in a suburban patch of Kentucky. Was it a hate crime, or something else? Characters re-enact the events leading to the murder and give us perspective on what happened and how. The teacher herself is among the narrators who look back on a life that reveals love for her family and an unexpected turn of events that alters all their lives.
About the venue…Metropolitan Arts Institute is located at 1700 N 7th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85007. There is parking accessible through two ramps that lead under the building on the ground level of the property off 7th Avenue. Guests are welcome to park in ANY space, regardless of how it is labeled. Follow the signs from the parking lot to the theatre. The entrance to the theatre is located up the center staircase in the garage (the one with the “Scorpius Dance” banner on it). There is also elevator access available toward the north end of the parking lot. Please note that this is a school property and a drug-free zone. No smoking, vaping, etc. is permitted on the property.
DG Footlights™ is a program, created and moderated by the Dramatists Guild, that connects dramatists with free space in which to hold a public reading of a new work that is currently in development. This initiative operates on a space-grant model: a representative from the Guild will arrange for a venue to donate space during allocated dates and times, and will ensure that the space is available for dramatists to use to present a self-produced reading to the public, with an optional feedback session following the reading.
Attendance is always free and open to all.
