Multidisiplinary Approach to Airway, Sleep Apnea, and Weight Management

Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach is considered best practice in the management of sleep apnea. By collaborating across dental, sleep medicine, ENT, plastic surgery, and maxillofacial surgery specialties, a comprehensive treatment plan can be developed. We will discuss an approach that incorporates advanced diagnostics, laser therapy, and semaglutide-based weight management to support overall patient care.

José Barrera is a triple board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in San Antonio, Texas. His specialties include aesthetic and reconstructive procedures of the face, neck, and airway. Dr. Barrera completed his medical degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1998. He underwent residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the same institution, followed by dual fellowships at Stanford University in Sleep and Maxillofacial Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Barrera has held several notable positions, including Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at San Antonio Military Medical Center and Department Chair at Brooke Army Medical Center.He currently serves as Medical Director at the Texas Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery and as a Clinical Professor at the Uniformed Services University.

Dr. Barrera's practice emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care, integrating advanced surgical techniques with a comprehensive understanding of aesthetic principles.
