PRAISE FOR ‘LOSS’
“The best acoustic pop album of the year.” – NME
“Sumptuous choirs and choruses. One of the best British records of the year.” – Uncut
“Euphoric, chiming songs of wide-eyed wonder. A major new songwriting talent.’ – The Scotsman
“A beacon of originality in a tiresome sea of dross.” – Time Out
“He has arrived as if fully-formed. A tartan clad debut of aspiring proportions.” – The Observer
“Pure sonic invention. MacIntyre is a major new songwriting force.’ Sunday Herald
Colin MacIntyre – the multi-award-winning musician, producer, author for adults and children and playwright -- presents his sumptuous, universally lauded and Gold-selling breakthrough Mull Historical Society album ‘Loss’ on it’s 20th anniversary, on what proves to be a special night at CC. MacIntyre has released 8 acclaimed albums to date, achieving two UK Top 20 albums and four Top 40 singles. The night will see special guests tba joining MacIntyre on stage, as well as other MHS tracks from his back catalogue. From the heartfelt charm of game-changing NME Debut Single of the Year, ‘Barcode Bypass’, to the rip-roaring MTV-adorned, ‘I Tried’ & ‘Animal Cannabus’, this proves to be a reflective and celebratory night. The band will feature CC faves Sorren MacIean, Hannah Fisher & Seonaid Aitken. 2022 will see MacIntyre release a new MHS album on Xtra Mile Recordings, as well as the special reissues on colour vinyl of ‘Loss’, ‘Us’ and ‘This Is Hope’ featuring rarities to celebrate this career milestone. MacIntyre has been voted Scotland's Top Creative Talent at the Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards, as well into the Greatest Scottish Artists of All Time public poll (only 3 years into his career), and one of his ‘Loss’ hit singles, ‘Watching Xanadu’, made STV’s ’Scottish Greatest Album'. ‘Loss’ was also a recent subject of the Sunday Herald’s ‘Scotland’s Greatest Albums’ series, and had its own chapter in the acclaimed book ‘When Quiet Was The New Loud’ published this year (despite not being a particularly quiet album!). His debut novel ‘The Letters of Ivor Punch’ won the 2015 Edinburgh Book Festival First Book Award and his memoir 'Hometown Tales' came out in 2018.
Says MacIntyre: “Despite what we’ve collectively had to endure, the past two years have been one of my biggest creative surges in both music and writing. It reminds me of the period leading up to making ‘Loss’, where I first found my voice and it felt like the sounds in my head came out as I was hearing them. This will be a celebratory night to kick off a milestone year for me, which makes me feel like quite the spring chicken... Celtic Connections is always special and somehow the album seems to have found its way into some people’s hearts and minds over the past 20 years. It was about dealing with grief, and a tribute to ‘community’ too, and so I feel blessed it found one. Playing ‘Loss’, and getting back on stage after the last 18 months, will be an emotional life-flashing-before-my-eyes journey, and I can’t wait. C’mon and join us.”
