About Your Host
The session is led by Ayesha Menezes (M.Ed. ’21; Graduate Diplomas in Language & Literacy and Post-Secondary Education; B.A. Hons. ’07), a doctoral researcher at York University and published children’s author of Angelo's Mudventures. This event is rooted in Ayesha's advocacy for young children’s right to play. Her work challenges the "sanitization" of childhood, prioritizing relationality, wonder, and care over efficiency and control. Ayesha champions the idea that children are knowledgeable beings who deserve the freedom to play without predetermined outcomes, fostering a renewed sense of ecological connection and community well-being.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of York University and the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
