MTN OUTdoors: Late Autumn Plant and Tree Walk

Need some respite from the chaotic world? Want to lean into nature with others in your greater queer community to find mindfulness and some fun, Fall connection with other trans and nonbinary folks and their chosen family? Evergreen Cemetery and our Late Autumn Plant and Tree Walk is the place to be! This event was designed with folks of all ages in mind. Come alone or with others and learn about the natural world.

Note: Please communicate any accessibility concerns or questions at registration and the walk leader, Grove, would be happy to contact you to discuss the aspects of the trail and the walk in more detail if desired.

Grove (they/she) is a plant, tree, bird and ecology hobbyist; a botanical illustrator for Fedco Seeds; and a recent graduate (!!!) of the Maine Master Naturalist program. They have led many plant identification and ethical foraging walks for people of all ages. Grove enjoys bringing people together to find queer joy and healing in nature, practice mindfulness outside, and become sensory animals in the woods.

Info: We recommend wearing comfortable, waterproof footwear, as well as dressing in layers and remembering to bring any other necessities to help ensure you are comfortable during the event (water bottle, bug spray and/or sunblock, etc.). The path for this walk is accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers. Please note that this event is for Transgender and Nonbinary folks of all ages, as well as their chosen families.

Info: Evergreen is an active municipal cemetery and a National Historic Landmark located on Stevens Avenue and managed by the Parks, Recreation & Facilities department.

Info: Evergreen Cemetery, the second-largest publicly-owned open space in the city at 239 acres, has been host to a variety of wildlife such as geese, ducks, pheasants, swans, turtles, blue heron, fox, mink, deer, and moose. Its spaciousness combined with old growth pine and oak, vegetation, ponds, and surrounding wetland, provides a true wildlife oasis. It is considered a premier birdwatching sanctuary. Maine Audubon utilizes the cemetery for field trips, to include their annual Warbler Week, conducted in May. The cemetery is also a wonderful location to enjoy the vibrant colors of fall foliage in Maine.
