Vlue Vintage (often abbreviated as V30) is a community-created, 60-card 1v1 Magic: The Gathering format that combines the near-open card pool of Vintage with a strict $30 deck price limit
Core Rules & Deckbuilding Constraints
Vintage Rules & Banned/Restricted List: The format follows standard 60-card constructed rules (with up to 15-card sideboards). Cards legal in Vintage are legal here. You must respect the Vintage Restricted List—meaning powerhouses like Tinker, Sol Ring, Channel, or Brainstorm are legal, but restricted to 1 copy per deck.
The $30 Total Budget Cap: The market price of your entire 75-card list (60-card mainboard + 15-card sideboard combined) cannot exceed $30 USD. Pricing Standard: Prices are calculated using the cheapest, English, tournament-legal printing on TCGplayer Market Price. You are welcome to play shiny or high-rarity physical copies in real life (e.g., a $50 foil version of a card), provided its cheapest available English printing fits within your deck's budget calculation. Basic Lands: Basic lands (Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, Forest) are treated as costing $0.00. Snow-covered basic lands, however, contribute to the budget.
Why Play Value Vintage?High Power Meets Low Cost: Unlike Pauper (which restricts you solely to commons), Value Vintage lets you play rares, mythics, planeswalkers, board wipes, and iconic historical cards. A "Brewer's Paradise": Because expensive multi-format staples (like Fetchlands, Force of Will, or high-end mana rocks) are priced out, players are forced to innovate. You can build powerful engines out of budget-friendly rares or draft chaff. Additive Deckbuilding: Want to run a single copy of Tinker or a set of strong rares? You can, but you have to make budget compromises elsewhere in your land base or interaction suite to stay under $30. Resilient Metagame: Price fluctuations keep the format dynamic. If a deck becomes dominant and its key cards rise in price, builders are forced to find budget replacements or pivot to new strategies.
