The 2026 MTBAA Annual Convention and Montana Surety Bail Summit is two days of serious education, honest conversation, and practical work — set in one of the Helena area's most distinctive venues, the East Wing of Missouri River Brewing Co. in East Helena.
Who comes: Montana-licensed bail agents, surety carrier representatives, district court judges, county attorneys, sheriffs and detention administrators, defense attorneys, and legislators. If you work anywhere in Montana's criminal justice system, this event is built for you.
Day 1 — Friday, September 25: Education & Professional Development
We start with the fundamentals and go deep. Sessions cover how bail actually works in Montana, the judicial and law enforcement perspective on bail practice, what happened with HB 852 in the 2025 session and what comes next, how AI and technology are reshaping the profession, and what industry accountability looks like in practice.
Day 2 — Saturday, September 26: 2027 Legislative Workshop — Open Stakeholder Session
This is the part that matters most for 2027. Day 2 is an open working session where we draft and debate the bills MTBAA intends to carry in the next legislative session — including a strengthened rebuild of HB 852, the 10% rule, and out-of-state agent reciprocity. Every stakeholder in the room — judge, prosecutor, sheriff, defense attorney, or agent — has an equal seat at the table. If you show up in a committee room in 2027, we want you to have been in this room in September 2026.
The venue: Missouri River Brewing Co.'s East Wing is a purpose-built event space with Montana character — industrial design, views of the Elkhorn Mountains, food on site, and ample parking. Ten minutes from downtown Helena.
