This intermediate course is designed for riders who are eager to build a solid foundation for catching air (and landing safely) and who want to learn the progressions needed to keep that foundation growing. We are big believers in the benefits of riding a pumptrack in order to hone your jumping (and many other) skills. A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns, and features designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping" (generating momentum) by dynamic body movements, instead of pedaling. The art of pumping is dynamic, powerful, and fun. If done properly, pumping helps a rider gain momentum without pedaling, which increases flow and efficiency on any bike - a perfect foundation for jumping.
In this class students can expect to cover the foundation for pumping and momentum-generation then build layers of progression from there. This class will also cover pumping corners, manual front wheel lifts, bunny hops, and basic jumping techniques.
Bonus: Pump tracks are fun for the whole family and provide a perfect setting for growing bike handling skills. So you can expect to leave this class with some of the most fun homework ever.
Prerequisites for this class:
A desire to grow and refine your skills for riding mountain bikes at higher speeds and to get your wheels off the ground
A desire to grow and refine your skills for riding a pumptrack
MTB 301 or equivalent / the ability to perform the skills listed in our 200 level series classes
You can ride most or all of the black-rated trails you encounter (except for maybe the jumps)

Duration: 3 - 3.5 hrs, depending on class size (>2 students but <7)
Cost: $175
Location: Exact meeting location will be sent upon registering but you can expect one of Bellingham’s rad pumptracks

MTB 302 will cover topics like these:
- Bike Set-up
- Body position for proper pumping, jumping, and cornering
- Improving momentum with pumping
- Skills to start jumping safely (table top jumps)
- Pumping and creating speed in corners
- Manual progressions with or without a manual trainer
- Learning techniques for managing energy, pumping, linking dynamic moves, and just being more playful on your bike and finding flow
