Summer will be in full swing so let’s get as far west as we can… then head even farther south. This weekend getaway will take you on a coastal safari and out to the mountains with desert overlooks, showcasing the incredible diversity of riding that San Diego has to offer in just 3 days. We’ll enjoy the local flavors, history, and even a special dinner event.
Along the PCH from Newport Beach to San Diego we’ll sample the best coastline riding that OC and SD can serve up. Southbound to the “southwestest” city, we’ll take in county-wide views from the peak of Mt. Soledad high above the coast and navigate the bays to the downtown waterfront. We’ll visit the Cabrillo Monument, winding through the hallowed beauty of the Cabrillo Memorial Cemetery affording spectacular vistas of the coastline and skyline. Then we’ll finish the evening in Old Town, the historical center of California’s first European settlement steeped in the confluence of Mexican, Spanish and Native American cultures.
The following morning will take us eastward as we climb 6,000 feet into the pine-scented sanctuary of the Laguna Mountains. Our route takes us up the Sunrise Highway, a designated National Scenic Byway that offers jaw-dropping lookouts where the lush forest abruptly drops off into the stark expanse of the Anza-Borrego Desert. We’ll lean through the rhythmic curves of Highway 79, passing through the historic oak groves of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and the gold-rush charm of Julian. The evening will unite us in warm comraderie as we share a family style bbq in the comfort of home.
After 2 great days of riding and adventures, we have one more ride before our final farewells. Cutting through the back roads of Poway will take us up Palomar Mountain to one of the most beautiful views at Boucher Hill Lookout. Then we head back down, winding through the canyons before stopping for lunch at Rainbow Oaks to cap off the weekend.
This tour is a classic “Palm-to-Pine” adventure that fills up quickly. Get on the list early to ensure you don’t miss out on this coast to alpine retreat.
