About this Event
“More of a jazz band than an orchestra “
Christophe Egret and David West met at Alsop Architects in the late nineties.
Christophe was Design Director when Alsop won the Stirling Prize, for Peckham Library in 2000. Christophe and David co-founded Studio Egret West in 2004.
Describing the studio as “more of a jazz band than a full orchestra”, they are multidisciplinary, notably collaborative, improvisational and good fun. Studio Egret West wins awards for refurbishments at Park Hill Sheffield and Balfron Tower East London. The studio is renowned for master planning, consultation and collaboration.
In Manchester they created Mayfield Park, opened in 2022, and currently lead on the Neighbourhood Development Framework for Holt Town; 4,500 homes, mixed amenities and public realm on 74 acres (30ha) of Brownfield land in East Manchester.
David West studied planning at University of Manchester. At Alsop he headed the Big Architecture team. Christophe and David led the consultation and Master Plan for New Islington, Manchester’s Millennium Village, for MCC and developer Urban Splash.
Egret West recently opened their first studio in Manchester, underlining their long association with the city. From this studio in Makers Quarter, in the Kampus development on Aytoun Street they continue work at Mayfield, Albert Bridge House, and Holt Town.
David West will talk about these projects amongst others, and the Studio Egret West ethos at Makers Quarter Manchester (M1 3GL) on Thursday 17 October 6-8.30pm.
