About this Event
This year’s luncheon serves as both a commemoration and a call to action. Under the theme "We Are One – We’re Better Together," we celebrate the power of unity and the collective strength required to advance justice and equity in our community.
Event Highlights
A Generational Conversation: Professor Mahmoud El-Kati We are honored to host a deep-dive conversation with legendary historian and educator Professor Mahmoud El-Kati. A cornerstone of the Twin Cities’ intellectual and activist community, Professor El-Kati will bridge the gap between Dr. King’s historical struggle and our modern-day mission. Expect a profound reflection on how "oneness" is not just an ideal, but a tool for survival and progress.
Keynote Address: Minister Ora Hokes Prepare to be inspired by our keynote speaker, Minister Ora Hokes. Known for her powerful voice and unwavering commitment to spiritual and social restoration, Minister Hokes will deliver a message centered on our theme. She will explore how our community can heal internal divisions to stand as a formidable, united front against systemic inequality.
"Know Your Rights" True unity requires a community that is informed and protected. Attorney Brandon Vaughn will lead a vital "Know Your Rights" session. This segment is designed to provide attendees with practical legal knowledge and the confidence to navigate complex systems. In the spirit of Dr. King’s pursuit of legal justice, this presentation ensures that our members are equipped to defend their dignity and their civil liberties.
Why Attend?
The Minneapolis NAACP believes that our greatest asset is each other. This luncheon is more than a meal; it is a space for:
- Connection: Meet with fellow advocates, community leaders, and neighbors.
- Education: Gain insights from some of the most respected minds in history and law.
- Action: Leave with the tools and the spirit necessary to continue the work of the Movement.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny." — Dr. Martin Luther King
