Mozart, Haydn and Shostakovich

Conductor David Afkham leads a program spanning the emotional range from Mozart’s thrillingly theatrical Don Giovanni Overture to Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 8, a profound reflection on suffering and hope. Cellist Zlatomir Fung makes his Minnesota Orchestra debut with Haydn’s radiant Cello Concerto in D major. The youngest artist to win first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, Fung combines dazzling virtuosity with exquisite sensitivity, establishing him as one of the most exciting rising stars of his generation.
*We are delighted to welcome Zlatomir Fung who will be the soloist for concerts on January 8 and 9, 2027 in place of Johannes Moser. In addition, Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D Major will replace Thorvaldsdottir’s Before we fall (Cello Concerto). The Mozart and Shostakovich remain on the program.
