Moving-with-the-World is an eight-week outdoor course about how movement changes the world we encounter.
A park railing or staircase can seem to have one obvious use. As we learn to move with it in different ways, it can become a landscape of possibilities: something to balance on, move around, reach toward, or use to develop strength and skill. The course asks how our ability to move shapes what the world offers us—and how practice can open possibilities we did not previously notice.
Each Saturday begins with a 30-minute philosophical talk centered on the question of movement. We then spend two and a half hours in guided physical practice, exploring movement through strength, mobility, balance, skill, and our interaction with the park environment.
Across the eight weeks, we will study how movement shapes what we perceive, what we can do, and how we inhabit the world. No background in philosophy or movement practice is required. The course is for people curious about movement and willing to study it through both thought and practice.
