About this Event

Join us on Thursday, March 27th, from 6:30 to 9 PM for a night of movement, memory, and celebration as we honor the legacy of the legendary Judith Jamison.

Dancer and choreographer Kendra J. Bostock, along with dancers Brittany Grier and Candace Thompson-Zachery will present a newly commissioned piece inspired by Cry, the iconic solo Alvin Ailey created for Jamison in 1971. Known for its emotional depth and technical brilliance, Cry remains a powerful tribute to Black womanhood, resilience, and grace.

Beyond the performance, Kendra will lead an interactive session, guiding us through some of the signature movements that made Cry so powerful. No prior dance experience is necessary—just bring your dancing shoes!

Evening Flow:

6:30 PM – Doors open (Light refreshments will be served)

7:00 PM –Program Begins, featuring a screening of Cry (1971)

7:40 PM – Dance performance by Kendra J. Bostock

8:00 PM – Movement workshop: learn and embody a piece of Cry

8:30 PM – Talkback with Kendra and fellow dancers

9:00 PM – Program Ends

This event is three of three in our month-long dedication to the luminaries who transitioned this past year, including Faith Ringgold, Lorraine O’Grady, and Nikki Giovanni. In the face of our present reality, we understand that the work they have left behind continues to nourish our imaginations and shape our collective consciousness. Their transitions remind us that legacy is a living force. We hope you join us this month in communion.
