THE DANCE OF COMPASSION
Emotion = Energy in Motion. When we dare to engage with our feelings, and give them to the dance, we release so much energy, within ourselves, within and for life. When we sit on our emotions, we hold back our life energy. When we learn how to dance with the energy of our emotions they become life enhancing, revitalising and empowering in ways which may at first seem paradoxical.
Our transformative dance journey will be supported by dancing with the sensitive strength of the wild - moving with the elements and with animal spirits will help us connect with the primal function and relevance for our emotions in the modern world.
And when we can embrace, include and move with all the colours of our hearts, then we grow the ground of embodied compassion; for ourselves, each other and the world. This work is often felt as a relief, a release, a cleansing and awakening of our hearts and the compass they are for our lives.
I am grateful to know this landscape well. Through my years in Gestalt Psychotherapy, through 18 years teaching 5 Rhythms and now 18 more teaching Movement Medicine, I am pretty familiar with this beautiful and transformative work. I feel privileged to offer this profound and yet simple work, without stress to try and feel anything, but with permission, gentleness, strength and love. I know actively engaging with this deepening dance can change the personal energetics of your inner system, and give you access to more life energy.
Imagine a hydraulic analogy. If we have "5 units" of emotional energy which we are refusing to allow to move, to flow or be felt, it takes maybe "5.5 units" of our life energy to hold it back, keep it "frozen" and "in place'. That means that "10.5 units" of life energy are lost to us - cancelled out. I do not know in what way this metaphor is accurate, but it certainly reflects my own lived experience, and that of many people who dance with us.
