About this Event
Our publicly funded mental health services (i.e. Health Authority, School District, Post-Secondary, Ministry for Children and Family Development, Corrections) are all trying to manage a need that far outstrips resources, and often are simultaneously unable to meet the increasingly complex needs of our diverse communities, with their current service delivery models. Opportunities for early intervention and prevention are few and far between.
Moving Forward's unique model of service delivery has been able to meet the needs of those falling through the massive gaps within and between public and private sector services, offering robust prevention, early intervention, post-acute, and maintenance support that incorporates individual, familial and community-level services. We have a team of 200 counselling and social work interns on practicums from accredited institutions (who come to us to fulfill requirements of their school programs and practice hours to become registered) and 300 of our alumni - registered therapists and social workers that can offer affordable sliding scale counselling and support options. Such a model does not exist anywhere, and represents a made-in-BC transformative approach to addressing mental health among our diverse communities.
Moving Forward has become among the largest non-profit counselling charities in the country, both in terms of our team size, and the number of clients we support (in 30+ languages), while receiving minimal public sector funding (in fact, we have zero funded counselling positions) - most of our funding comes from community support, and operating with minimal costs (including operating out of donated spaces). Please come out to learn more about our accomplishments, and support our efforts to address mental health and wellbeing of our diverse communities.
Your support allows us to continue to operate and expand, at a time when publicly funded services continue to struggle with the demand. We aren't just advocating for transformative change, we are transformative change.
Please consider purchasing a ticket or table (approx 60% of ticket price is tax deductible) to support our efforts to transform mental health care in BC and across Canada.
