Moving Beyond the Basics: Anti-bias Education in Montessori

Join us for an immersive and hands-on workshop designed specifically for Montessori educators committed to Anti-Bias, Antiracist (ABAR) practices. In this workshop, participants will learn how to create and update Montessori materials using an ABAR lens, ensuring that our classrooms are inclusive, affirming, and reflective of the communities we serve.

Workshop Highlights:

- Watch as Britt Hawthorne models how to create and adapt Montessori materials with an ABAR focus, sharing her insights and techniques.

- Understand the importance of incorporating ABAR principles into Montessori materials.

- Learn practical strategies for developing and updating classroom materials.

- Gain inspiration and concrete examples from Britt Hawthorne's elementary Montessori classroom.

-Engage in hands-on activities and collaborative discussions to practice making your ABAR-aligned materials.

Note: While specific materials such as Texas Indigenous nomenclature cards, updated symmetry cards, updated word study cards, and race and racism nomenclature cards are potential examples, they are not guaranteed and may vary based on workshop dynamics and participant needs.

By participating in this workshop, you’ll take an important step towards creating a more just and equitable educational environment for your students.

This session is perfect for Montessorians who have taken Let's Get Started: Anti-bias Education in Montessori and are ready to implement it.

Moving Beyond the Basics: Anti-bias Education in Montessori is suitable for primary guides (3-6 year-olds) and elementary guides (6-12 years old) who have a strong foundation of the anti-bias education framework.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're looking for an introductory workshop, please sign up for Let's Get Started: Anti-bias Education in Montessori on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 9:00-3:30 PST.

This in-person workshop aims to dismantle the color-blind assumption and prepare children to work toward justice. This presentation shares concrete ways Montessori guides and classroom educators can support their learners' developing racial, ethnic, and physical identities. Educators will learn how to empower learners, affirm their numerous identities, and challenge pre-prejudice.

Anti-bias Education in Montessori is suitable for primary guides (3-6 year-olds) and elementary guides (6-12 years old) who are beginning to implement the anti-bias education framework.

See more details for Day 1 here.

You can attend both workshops or just one workshop. If you are attending both days, please register separately for each day.
