About this Event
The Olive Tree / El olivio (2016) directed by Icíar Bollaín
The Meadows Museum is pleased to screen The Olive Tree as part of the SMU World Languages and Literatures Eighth Annual International Film Festival, which focuses on women behind and in front of the camera. This film tells the story of Alma, a twenty-year-old girl who adores her grandfather. He has not spoken for years, and when he refuses to eat, Alma decides to recover the olive tree that the family had sold against her grandfather’s wishes. To succeed, she needs the help of her uncle, a victim of Spain's economic crisis; her friend Rafa; and her whole town. The in-person film screening includes a short talk by Dr. Constantin C. Icleanu, lecturer of Spanish and first-year Spanish-language coordinator at SMU.
