"La tía Tula (Aunt Tula)," 1964Directed by Miguel Picazo
Tonight is the final screening in our fall series of films from the decade of our founding, the 1960s!
Based on Miguel de Unamuno’s 1921 novel of the same title, "La tía Tula" is regarded as a classic of Spanish cinema. When her sister dies, unmarried Tula moves in with her brother-in-law Ramiro to manage the household affairs and care for her two nephews. Ramiro soon wants to marry his sister-in-law, but Tula insists on maintaining a platonic relationship and living together becomes more difficult each day. The film won the award for Best Spanish Language Film and Picazo for Best Director at the 1964 San Sebastián International Film Festival.
Movies with the Meadows is proudly presented in collaboration with Dallas Film. While not every film in the series has an MPAA rating, all are intended for mature audiences only.
