Film Screening (B&W– 130 mins) It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) is a classic American film that celebrates the power of selflessness and community. Starring James Stewart as George Bailey, a compassionate, but frustrated man, who has given up his personal dreams to help others in his small town of Bedford Falls. Donna Reed plays Mary Hatch, George’s supportive wife, while Lionel Barrymore portrays the malevolent Mr. Potter, a greedy businessman determined to control Bedford Falls. Thomas Mitchell appears as George’s absent-minded Uncle Billy, whose mistake triggers a financial crisis that pushes George to the brink of despair. On Christmas Eve, George, feeling worthless and considering suicide, is visited by a guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). The film’s themes of sacrifice, hope and the interconnectedness of lives continue to inspire audiences, making it a perennial holiday favourite.
