About this Event
Acclaimed Documentary: The Day Iceland Stood Still
Join us for a glass of wine, a special screening, and discussion with Seattle area elected officials! The Seattle–Reykjavík Sister City Association proudly celebrates its 40th Anniversary with a powerful evening of film, leadership, and connection. In honor of International Women’s Month, this inspiring film tells the story of the historic 1975 day when nearly all women in Iceland walked off the job and out of their homes—transforming a nation and redefining women’s leadership for generations.
Today, women hold nearly every top public office in Iceland—from Prime Minister to Foreign Minister, Minister of Justice, Speaker of Parliament, National Police Commissioner, Director of Health, and Mayor of Reykjavík.
Afterward enjoy a fireside chat featuring Seattle’s Mayor Katie Wilson and Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir, former Icelandic MP and minister, and just this month was elected as the head of The Progressive Party!
