Movie Nights at Moments Co-op: Incident at Restigouche

Nostalgic For Nothing Cinema is excited to present the next Movie Night at Moments Co-op, featuring the 46 min documentary "Incident at Restigouche". After the screening we will have a group discussion.
"Incident at Restigouche is a 1984 documentary film by Alanis Obomsawin, chronicling a series of two raids on the Listuguj Mi’gmaq First Nation (Restigouche) by the Sûreté du Québec in 1981, as part of the efforts of the Quebec government to impose new restrictions on Native salmon fishermen. Incident at Restigouche delves into the history behind the Quebec Provincial Police (QPP) raids on the Restigouche Reserve on June 11 and 20, 1981. The Quebec government had decided to restrict fishing, resulting in anger among the Micmac Indians as salmon was traditionally an important source of food and income. Using a combination of documents, news clips, photographs and interviews, this powerful film provides an in-depth investigation into the history-making raids that put justice on trial."
One of the most acclaimed Indigenous directors in the world, Alanis Obomsawin is a Canadian filmmaker of Abenaki descent. She has created an extraordinary body of work of over 50 films primarily on First Nations culture and history.

- 1st floor is wheelchair accessible, front door width of 36in (front door gate-base sticks out a bit, can make navigating into the store require assistance)
- Gender neutral bathroom on 2nd floor, up a flight of stairs 36in wide (14 steps exactly)
