Movie Nights at Moments Co-op FUNDRAISER: "The Fall of the I-Hotel"

Movie Nights are back! Nostalgic for Nothing Cinema is excited to show Curtis Choy's 1983 documentary, The Fall of the I-Hotel.

Filmed over the course of the International Hotel's 9-year eviction struggle that took place in San Francisco's Manilatown from 1968-1977, the film follows the story of the manongs, the elderly Filipino men, who called the I-Hotel their home and the activists who built up community institutions within to prevent their eviction. Under the backdrop of post-war urban renewal and redevelopment, the film captures the spirit of the Third World left and the "unfinished experiment" of trying to build new socialities beyond capitalism's destruction. We see through dance, food, stories, and militant resistance how the I-Hotel continues to provide us with inspiration for how we might build intergenerational community and collectives in this moment.
