We are so excited to partner with First Hand Films for the screening of the film "Leila Khaled Hijacker" next Monday, on our amazing TLV rooftop, 20:00. Pay according to your ability (30-50 NIS suggested), all funds will be transferred to the scholarship fund of TINAU.
Leila Khaled Hijacker is a fascinating journey of a filmmaker who seeks to continually learn from and question the world around her, as well as a look at those who are not only unwavering in their beliefs, but live with the absolutel certainty that they are correct, such as Leila Khaled. This is a film about a filmmakers journey and identity as well as the story of Leila Khaled.
Leila Khaled was a 25 years old Palestinian born in Haifa who fled with her family to Lebanon in 1948. She grew up in exile, with dreams about seeing an independent Palestine. Khaled was the first woman to hijack an airplane, 53 years ago, today. She did so, ostensibly, with her friend, to bring the plight of the Palestinians to the attention of the world.
Lina Makboul, the filmmaker, was born in Sweden to Palestinian parents and dreams of a free Palestinian state, and an admirer of Leila Khaled's character in her youth.
Makboul made a movie asking some hard questions about her youth idole, such as whether killing innocent people is ever justified. Makboul also interviews members of the planes' crews and a couple of the passengers. She allows her subjects to relate their stories and their points of view on terrorism and she is candid about her own confusion on the matter.
