Everything and Nothing
In this series Larsen's exploration of improvisation dance for performance takes on organising nonsense into coherence, and absurdity into rigour.
Larsen's 30 year practice of improvised performance is currently playing with 4 arguments:
1. Dance is a behaviour
2. Sound should be creatively misused.
3. Art is absurd
4. The audience is the problem
Larsen questions how we can play with relationships and entrenched values informing practices of improvisation. Such as tonality and rhythm in sound, and the spectacles of contemporary dance virtuosity. With what narratives could unfamiliar sounds and bodily movements be made into compelling gestalts?
If that sounds challenging it’s because it is, but it’s also a lot of fun to play with.
Kristian Larsen is an obsolescing movement and sound improviser. Larsen's crumbly approach to improvisation and sonics is distracted by relationships between the body and technology. His entangling of contemporary dance spare parts with creative misuses of audio technologies is guided by humour and a wealth of performance experience.
