Movement Incubator

Join us as we welcome Emily Liptow as she holds space for the next installment of our Movement Incubator series: The Space Between Us: exploring connection, touch & consent.

This workshop is an invitation to slow down and explore how we meet one another—through attention, movement, touch, and choice. We’ll begin by connecting with our own bodies through simple movement and attunement to felt sense. We’ll engage in simple, guided movement explorations that emphasize listening, responsiveness, and mutual care. The focus of our movement is not about what things look like, but on noticing sensation, boundaries, and the subtle ways connection emerges between us.

Participants will be supported to:

• Discover ways of moving that feel embodied—led by sensation rather than instruction
• Explore touch as a conversation, guided by consent and curiosity
• Practice asking, listening, and responding to “yes,” “no,” and “maybe”
• Engage in the dance of connection, where movement, touch, and attention unfold through listening and response

Open to all with a curiosity about movement and connection with others. No prior dance experience needed. Options will be offered, and you are welcome to participate at your own pace.

About our Facilitor
Emily Liptow is a movement artist and facilitator based between Cleveland and Durham NC. This workshop draws from her experience with contact improvisation, ensemble theater, and somatics.

About Movement Incubator
Movement Incubator is an event series where a rotating cast of facilitators lead small groups through unpolished and experimental movement practices. We want to foster a community of folks who are curious about trying new things and are hungry to explore the edges of unrefined movement.

Parking & Accessibility
Abide West is located in the studio space located behind Willow Room in Lakewood. The address is 15801 Detroit Avenue. There is free parking behind the building off Brockley Ave, and there's a cute li'l Abide West sign above the correct door towards the back of the building.You'll have to climb just a few steps to get into the building. You can leave your shoes in the hall. The space has a private bathroom, cold water for drinking, and hot water for making tea. There's a quiet room set apart from the main studio should you need to take some space.

We ask that you stay home if you're feeling sick. We run an air purifier in the space during the event, and have KN-95 masks and COVID tests available as well.
