Welcome to Binge Thinking! We host professors giving lectures in pubs. Join us this week for a GREAT talk...
Move More, Think Better: How Exercise Shapes the Brain
You already know exercise is good for your body. But what is it doing to your brain? Turns out...a lot.
In this talk, Dr. Emma Tinney breaks down how movement doesn’t just make you fitter... it actually changes how your brain works.
We’ll explore:
- How exercise boosts neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to adapt and grow)
- Why movement improves cardiovascular health — and why that matters for your brain
- How physical activity can protect against cognitive decline as you age
- And the big question: how much exercise do you actually need to see these benefits?
About the Speaker
Dr. Emma Tinney is a neuroscientist studying how lifestyle behaviors impact brain health, particularly in individuals with traumatic brain injury.
She earned her PhD in Neuroscience from Northeastern University. Her research uses advanced brain imaging to understand how exercise and other modifiable behaviors can improve cognitive function.
She is a postdoctoral research fellow at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where she will continue researching rehabilitation interventions for individuals with brain injuries.
