Join us in our 150th Anniversary Parade, Exposition and Recruitment Fair, May 19, 2024 downtown MV. More details below.
In 1874, the population in Mountain View had grown to 300 residents, but it had no fire department. On April 1st, of that same year, the Mountain View Fire Department was formed when 50 of the town's civic‑minded residents sat around a pot‑bellied stove and a cracker barrel and organized the first fire brigade. With some red buckets, hand tools, fire extinguishers and ladders, they called their fire brigade “Mountain View Station Hook and Ladder Company No. 1.”
In honor of this historic occasion, we will have a parade with celebrations and a public safety recruitment fair on Sunday, May 19, 2024, along Castro Street and in front of City Hall.
This is a celebration for families of all ages and specially for the little ones with:
1. Parade of modern and vintage fire apparatus with MVFD members marching along with a band of pipes and drums,
2. Bucket brigade for kids,
3. Inflatable firehouse for education about fire safety,
4. Recruitment fair with police and fire departments from the Bay Area.
5. About a dozen horses pulling vintage steam fire engines,
6. At least one steam fire engine will be fired up and be pumping,
7. Exposition of early motorized fire engines and police vehicles.
Please come to downtown Mountain View
Castro St. and City Hall on Sunday, May 19, 2024, get some lunch from our amazing restaurants and watch the parade.
The recruitment fair starts at 11 a.m. and the parade at 12:30 p.m.
