Mountain Shop Community Film Night: Champions of the Golden Valley

is an award-winning documentary that follows the rise of a homegrown ski culture in the mountains of Afghanistan, revealing a breathtaking and rarely seen side of the country — one rooted in joy, resilience, and community.

At its heart is Alishah Farhang, a former Olympic hopeful who returns home determined to share his love of skiing. With handmade wooden skis and secondhand gear, young athletes from rival villages train together for a one-of-a-kind ski mountaineering race that becomes a powerful symbol of unity and hope. When their world is suddenly upended, they lean on the strength and connection forged on the slopes.

Riveting and deeply human, Champions of the Golden Valley is an uplifting underdog story about how sport can bridge divides, strengthen communities, and spark light in the most unexpected places.
