Learn the fundamentals that keep you, and everyone around you, safe on the trail.
This on-trail, highly experiential and hands-on course takes place at Galbraith Mountain. Our Wilderness First Aid/WFR-R for Mountain Bikers program covers the essentials of wilderness and emergency medicine, and is tailored to scenarios that frequently occur in mountain biking. Learn to treat life threats, improvise equipment, stabilize injuries, and aid in extrication. Focus is placed on prevention and risk management.
This program is field-based and designed for responding to real life scenarios on the trail, so please be prepared by bringing your equipment to ride. Half of each day you will practice your new skills in live, practical scenarios. The remainder of time is spent off the trail honing in on the course material. Students will be expected to be comfortable riding 10+ miles through intermediate terrain, and both ascending and descending 1000 feet. For skills practice you will need to be able to get on and off the ground, squat, and lift the weight of your bike. Equipment must be in good working order, and it is advised to bring a kit to maintain your bike.
