Join exhibiting artist David R. Harper for a two-part introduction to the mould making techniques he used to create over 10,000 slip-cast birds for MIDNIGHT. Participants are invited to bring a small, simple object that will be the foundation for making a plaster mould on the first day of this workshop. After drying overnight, these moulds will be ready for you to begin learning how to slip-cast multiples of your object.
Mould making materials are included in the cost of registration; an optional firing fee will be payable for those who wish to fire any slip-cast objects following this workshop.
When attending any of our public programs please consider bringing non-perishable food and hygiene products to donate to the Burlington Food Bank. Like so many communities, Burlington has seen an alarming 20% increase in the need for assistance with groceries over the last year. We are collecting community contributions to support the food bank’s efforts in meeting the growing demand for food security.
About the Instructor:
David R. Harper (b. Toronto, Canada / Lives and Works in Philadelphia, PA), received his BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Fiber and Material Studies. Harper’s work employs both traditional and non traditional materials such as embroidery, ceramic, and casting materials such as salt and charcoal in a cross disciplinary manner to create objects installations that grapple with notions of loss, love, feelings of belonging and how we use objects to inform our notions of self.
