Born & raised in Detroit MI., home of the legendary Motown Sound, Eddie Watkins, Jr. started his musical career at the age of 10, playing piano for a bingo game. By the age of 13, his focus had shifted from piano to bass guitar, he had joined the Musicians Union and gotten himself hired by The Jonny Trafton Band.
While still in high school, Eddie caught the attention of legendary Motown producer, Norman Whitfield, which resulted in a call from Motown to play for the new Temptations album, Masterpiece. His work on the Masterpiece album led to numerous Motown sessions for Holland Dozier Holland (of The Four Tops, Diana Ross and the Supremes fame), Marvin Gaye, The Dramatics, and others.
When Motown left Detroit for Hollywood, Eddie followed in hopes of continuing to be part of Motown’s L.A. sound. Very quickly he became one of the premier session bass players in L.A., playing bass for everyone from James Brown, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, The Pointer Sister, Phillis Hyman, and more. Along with this new found fame came money, success, opulence and, in Eddie’s case, substance abuse.
While in recovery, Eddie had an awakening which led him on a spiritual search for more clarity about the purpose of his life. In 2007, his introduction to New Thought/Ancient Wisdom principles changed his life forever, and he realized he was here to serve and to spread these principles to the world through his special brand of music. We are the fortunate recipients of that realization.
Most recently, Eddie served 3 years as music director at Center For Spiritual Living Greater Las Vegas, under Rev. Doug Foglesong, followed by 3 years as director of music ministries at The Center For Spiritual Living Seattle under Rev Dr. Kathianne Lewis. In 2017, Eddie settled in Florida where he has served as music director at the Center For Creative Living in St Johns, FL, as Music director at the Center For Spiritual Living St Augustine, Fl, and Unity of Central Florida.
