Feature: Mimi Zhang. Born in Guangzhou and living in Canberra since 1988, Mimi is a teacher, community interpreter, singer and local entrepreneur who has been writing for over 20 years. With articles in ‘Canberra Literati’, a publication of the Australian Chinese Culture Exchange and Promotion Association and major Chinese newspapers, Mimi has published four books. ‘Where has love gone’ 情歸何處 (2004), ‘Sketch’ 行笔素写 (2017), ‘Rhythm’ 行心素语 (2018) and ‘Window’ 行诗素摄 (2020). She has read from her work at ACT libraries, on community radio and at a concert at the Sydney Town Hall but this is her first performance at Smith’s, where she will present poems in Mandarin and Cantonese from ‘Window’, a bilingual book of photographs and poetry inspired by her travels through the world and her life, and some more recent work.

You will have 4 minutes to present a poem wholly or partly in another language, with an introduction or summary in English. All styles from traditional to contemporary slam are welcome, and you can read or recite an original poem or piece by another poet.
