The Washington International Young Artists Music Series (WIYAMS) extends its sincere appreciation to the National United Methodist Church for warmly welcoming WIYAMS and supporting our 2026 concert season. We are grateful for the opportunity to bring our artists and audiences together in this beautiful and historic space, and we deeply value the church’s support of music, the arts, and the wider community.
We also extend our special thanks to Dr. Mary Voutsas, whose efforts and support helped make this collaboration possible. Her commitment to connecting WIYAMS with National United Methodist Church has played an important role in bringing this concert to life.
ABOUT THE CONCERT
On Sunday, September 13 at 4:00 PM, MOSAIC opens the WIYAMS Fall 2026 season with an afternoon of piano, strings, clarinet, percussion, and chamber music. Eight WIYAMS Artists, one WIYAMS Young Artist, and the Vinola Trio will come together at National United Methodist Church. Joining us from Ann Arbor, Rochester, New York, Baltimore, Bloomington, Wisconsin, and Los Angeles, these musicians bring artistic backgrounds shaped across the United States, Asia, and Europe.
Featured pianists Trinity Fan, Ashley Lee, Nicholaus Poelwijk, Bella Xiangcao Shi, Peter Barbo, and WIYAMS Young Artist Beatrice Söderberg will perform music by Schumann, Debussy, Liszt, Ravel, and Florence Price. Clarinetist Li-Jie Yu, violist Chang-Ping Gu, and percussionist David Chungin Lee add further colors to the program through works by André Messager, Joan Tower, and J. S. Bach.
The concert also features the Vinola Trio—violinist Laurel Gagnon, clarinetist Li-Jie Yu, and pianist Ruoyang Xiang—performing Guillaume Connesson’s energetic Techno-Parade. Grand Prize winners at both the 2025 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and the 2026 NOLA Chamber Music Competition, the trio brings together artists affiliated with Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect, the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, and Truman State University.
Like the individual pieces of a mosaic, each performer and each work carries its own distinct color and character. Within the resonant and inspiring space of National United Methodist Church, these musical voices come together—contrasting yet connected—to form a vibrant and harmonious whole.
