2220 ARTS + ARCHIVES presents a special one-nite family-friendly Valentine's Week screening of Lotte Reiniger’s 1926 German silhouette animation silent film "THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED," the oldest surviving feature length animated film on its 100th anniversary year, with a live score by NYC's MORRICONE YOUTH! THE FIRST LIVE SCORE OF THIS FILM BY MORRICONE YOUTH SINCE 2012! THE FIRST TIME EVER IN LOS ANGELES.
Lotte Reiniger’s astonishing 1926 adaptation of tales from “One Thousand and One Nights”, THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED is the first feature length animated film, using striking silhouette cutouts and gorgeous color tinting to bring to life the story of an Arabian prince who is whisked away on a flying horse to an enchanted land where he tangles with an evil sorcerer, rescues a princess, and joins forces with none other than Aladdin.
Morricone Youth is a collective of New York City musicians founded in 1999 reinterpreting 100+ film and television works all over the world, from CBGB's and the top of the World Trade Center to the Brooklyn Academy of Music, MassMoCA, Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Sydney Festival, as well as supporting Italian prog soundtrack legends Goblin on their 2017 North American tour. The band has composed and performed 15 different silent film and midnight movie live scores, including F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu (1922), Robert Clouse’s Enter The Dragon (1973), Jack Hill's Foxy Brown (1974), David Lynch's Eraserhead (1977) and Rene Laloux's La Planete Savauge (1973), and embarked on a 15-vinyl series for each film in 2016, the first 7 of which have been released for George Miller's Mad Max (1979), George Romero's Night of the Living Dead (1968), F.W. Murnau's Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927), Lotte Reiniger's The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926), Mario Bava's Danger: Diabolik (1968), Alfred Hitchcock's The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1928) and Sergei Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin (1926).
Morricone Youth's The Adventures of Prince Achmed EP was composed for a live scoring of Lotte Reiniger's 1926 German animation silent film classic, first performed live at Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2012. Morricone Youth's original reworked live film score for "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" had a vinyl release in 2016 distributed via Light In The Attic Records and Revolver/Midheaven on black 150g vinyl and also available through the Morricone Youth website (morriconeyouth.com) and Bandcamp (https://morriconeyouth.bandcamp.com/album/the-adventures-of-prince-achmed).
