Join us for Morning Calm with Sonya Pigot, pianist from the Royal College of Music, who will be playing works by Vine, von Weber, Olga Kern, Rachmaninoff, Haydn, Liszt and Debussy.

Morning Calm is a short piano recital beginning at 8.40am, consisting of around 10-12 minutes of music followed by a few minutes' silence for reflection and meditation before ending with brief prayers for the day ahead. You are most welcome to stay for the whole recital or if you would prefer not to stay for the Christian conclusion to leave just before the end. Morning Calm aims to offer a reflective and calm start to the day for people of any faith or none in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London.
As always admission is free.
In January 2025 Sonya was a semi-finalist in the Liszt Utrecht International piano competition at the Tivoli Vredenburg, Netherlands and in September 2025 she won the “Paola Bruni” Special Prize for her interpretations of Carl Vine in the Palma D’oro International piano Competition.
Her performing career has taken her worldwide to prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Steinway Hall, Fazioli Concert Hall, The Royal Albert Hall and concert halls throughout Asia, USA. Australia and Europe. While engaged in her Undergraduate, Masters and Artist Diploma Degrees at the Royal College of Music she has studied and worked with renowned professors including Norma Fisher, Sofya Gulyak, Dimitri Alexeev and Ian Jones.
Sonya is looking forward to a busy 26/27 performance season ahead with highlights including upcoming concerto performances with the Brandenburger Symphoniker in Germany and collaborations with the violinist David Nebel, Concertmaster of the Berlin Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. Alongside her performance career she is studying a PhD at the Royal College of Music, London.
Sonya is a Keyboard Trust Artist and is generously supported by the Talent Unlimited Charity. As well as having performed for members of the British Royal Family, Sonya has won prizes in many international music competitions across Australia and Europe; most notably the Busoni International piano competition, semi-finalist in Liszt Utrecht International piano competition, ”Paola Bruni” Prize at the Palma D’oro International piano competition, First prize in the Grand Prize Virtuoso International music competition, Gold Medal in the Berliner International Music competition, First prize in the Hephzibah Menuhin Memorial Award piano competition and First prize in the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Rising Star competition.
Sonya has had concert engagements with orchestras since she was 15, most notably the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Richard Gill AO and the Perugia Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marius Stravinsky in Tuscany.
Sonya has participated in masterclasses with many international artists, such as: Alfred Brendel, Boris Berman, John Perry, Ewa Poblocka and Pavel Gililov.
