About this Event

Join us for Morning Calm with Rebekah Tan, pianist from the Royal College of Music, who will be playing works by Debussy, Haydn, Scriabin, Chopin, Beethoven and JS Bach.

Dates: Daily Monday - Friday

Time: 8.40-8.55am

Location: St George's Hanover Square, St George Street, W1

Morning Calm is a short piano recital beginning at 8.40am, consisting of around 10-12 minutes of music followed by a few minutes' silence for reflection and meditation before ending with brief prayers for the day ahead. You are most welcome to stay for the whole recital or if you would prefer not to stay for the Christian conclusion to leave just before the end. Morning Calm aims to offer a reflective and calm start to the day for people of any faith or none in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London.

As always admission is free.

Born in 2006 in Shanghai, Rebekah Yinuo Tan is currently in her second undergraduate year at the Royal College of Music in London, studying with Professor Dmitri Alexeev. During her time so far at College she has had the privilege of being chosen to participate in a masterclass with Roy Howat and was the winner of the 2025 Watford International Piano Competition and a finalist in the RCM Chappell Medal Piano Prize.

Rebekah started piano lessons aged 7 with Zijie Wu, professor at the affiliated school of the Shanghai Music Conservatoire. She later joined Chetham’s School of Music in 2017, studying with Marta Karbownicka and Helen Krizos from 2019.

At Chetham’s, Rebekah was the winner of the Chetham’s Beethoven Prize and finalist in the Chetham’s Chopin Prize and was the recipient of the Vernon D Farley Piano Prize upon graduation. She also won both the junior and senior categories of the Chetham’s Concerto Competitions at the age of 13 with the Grieg Piano Concerto, as the only pianist selected in the school. As a result, she gave two concerto performances in The Stoller Hall, Manchester. This includes a performance of Prokofiev’s 3rd Piano Concerto in Feb 2022, under the baton of Jonathan Bloxham with the Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra.

Rebekah is an active recitalist across the UK, enjoying re-invitations from London venues. Performance highlights include St Martin-in-the-Fields (London), The Bridge (Shanghai), Manchester Cathedral, and the Bridgewater Hall. She has had a range of national and international competition successes, such as being the Gold Hands Prize winner in the 2021 Carls and Sofia Piano Competition (Emergent Class - ages 17-21). She has also been selected to take part in the 2022 Ettlingen International Piano Competition (Category B), and in 2023, the Schumann Düsseldorf and Junior Hilton Head International Piano Competitions. She was a Junior Drake Calleja Trust Scholar, Junior Hattori Foundation Award holder, and is kindly supported by Talent Unlimited.

Having participated in many masterclass courses, such as SIMA Classics, Pianale, and Altalena, Rebekah has had the honour to work with esteemed musicians. These include Boris Berman, Piotr Paleczny, Matti Raekallio, Stephen Hough, Vanessz Latarache, and Steven Osborne. She is also grateful for the mentorship from Christopher Elton and Kathryn Stott.

Rebekah is an avid collaborative pianist outside of her solo work, which has led to performances in prestigious venues including the Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Royal Overseas League. She performs actively as part of Trio Musae, who were selected as Hans Keller Forum artists 2025-26. Working with singers, she has participated in masterclasses with James Baillieu and Anna Tilbrook and has appeared as part of the youngest ever duo in the Rebecca Clarke Song Competition Semi-finals.
