About this Event

(FBC) is dedicated to promoting inclusivity & safety in birding for everyone especially LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC & disabled folks and women.

Join FBC as we explore Park 566 on 8/17 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am in search of grassland birds, waterfowl, and raptors. Bird species that call this park home in the summer include the Grasshopper Sparrow, Sedge Wren, Dickcissel, American Kestrel, and Eastern Meadowlark.
No prior experience with birdwatching is required. This is a beginner friendly event and organization. Families are also welcome to join (children do not need to RSVP). Binoculars will be available for loan upon request (please email [email protected]).
Questions? Please email [email protected].
Getting There: Free parking is available on S Farragat Drive. Park 566 is accessible by public transit via the #6 and #79 CTA buses. For directions using public transportation visit www.transitchicago.com. Exact meeting point will be shared with registered attendees.
Accessibility & Terrain: Total trip distance is approximately 1-1.5 miles and will take place mostly on wide, semi-paved trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions. Restrooms are not available here.

Dress: Please dress in comfortable weather appropriate clothing, layers are recommended as the park is particularly exposed to lakefront winds. Sun protection is necessary in the summer as there is little tree cover. There are ticks in the area, so we recommend wearing long sleeves and pants, high socks, and closed shoes.

PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER IF YOU ARE NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTEND.

CANCEL YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE IF YOUR PLANS CHANGE.
