Internationally acclaimed solo performance artist Steven Fales brings an all-new production of his groundbreaking Off-Broadway solo play MORMON BOY to the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs as a benefit for SafeHouse of the Desert on Sunday, November 17th at 3:00 and 7:00 PM. Tickets are $45/$75 at mormonboy.com through Eventbrite. The Camelot Theatre at the Palm Springs Cultural Center is located at 2300 E. Baristo Rd.
"As moving as it is funny."--NY Daily News
“Wrenchingly honest, hilariously jubilant and utterly clear-eyed, MORMON BOY is an exceptional achievement to rank beside the best of the solo genre."--LA Times (Critic's Choice)
MORMON BOY was originally directed by Tony Award Winner Jack Hofsiss ("The Elephant Man"). This inspiring, entertaining, award-winning autobiographical solo play had a five-month run Off-Broadway at the SoHo Playhouse before touring extensively across the country and around the world.
MORMON BOY tells the harrowing true story of how Steven Fales—a sixth-generation Mormon and former LDS missionary—was formally excommunicated when he came out to his wife in
Utah. His fall from grace culminated in prostitution and drugs in Manhattan before reclaiming his life and role as a father of two. Told with warmth, humor, song, and even "The Book
of Mormon."
This “new and improved” production with an updated script will add projections for the first time as Steven Fales prepares to return to touring after a four-year hiatus—having last performed Mormon Boy to sold-out crowds in Melbourne, Australia, February 2020, just before the global pandemic.
Julie Hale, Fund Development Director of SafeHouse stated, “In keeping with the mission of SafeHouse, to provide emergency shelter, intervention and outreach services for runaway,
homeless, trafficked and other youth in crisis we felt this riveting performance could provide inspiration and awareness about the dangers of life on the streets and how anyone can become
a victim of trafficking. MORMON BOY couldn’t have happened at a better time as November is known as National Runaway Prevention Month, which brings awareness to youth
homelessness. We are so grateful to Steven for sharing his experiences with us and for donating his time to support SafeHouse of the Desert.”
“If I could allow myself to be sex-trafficked at 30 with two degrees and privilege, think about how vulnerable high-risk teenagers are today of being exploited. With this benefit," Fales said, "I hope to raise $50,000.00 for SafeHouse, which does extraordinary work to help prevent human trafficking and help victims re-build their lives throughout Riverside County. 100% of the ticket
sales will go to SafeHouse."

"MORMON BOY has one of the most riveting moments I have ever seen in the theatre. It literally made my jaw drop. Being a gay recovering Southern Baptist, Steven Fales’s tale of his journey to self-acceptance made me want to jump up in the theatre and holler "Amen"! I have seen Mormon Boy several times and have brought friends who were considering doing one-person shows to show them an example of how multi-layered a solo piece like his can be. Mr. Fales is a master at his craft. His work is timely and of utmost importance in these days of religious-based intolerance."
