More Than One Way: Creating Access & Agency for All with UDL 3.0
About this Event
As demographics shift in our independent school populations and our students continue to present more diverse learning needs than ever before, educators may be feeling stuck. As a teacher-leader or administrator, what may have always worked well in the past is no longer effective. Differentiating and providing accommodations is necessary, but what about those students without learning plans?By registering for this workshop, you will also be added to our mailing list to receive updates about future programs, resources, and events. You can unsubscribe at any time.
We capture photos at our workshops to share the joy and impact of CATDC programs. By attending, you consent to being photographed for use in our communications. If you’d prefer not to be photographed or would like a photo removed, please let us know.
The question becomes: How can we reach every learner?
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) 3.0 can serve as a powerful framework for providing access and promoting student agency for all. Based on neuroscientific research, UDL shifts the focus away from one standard way of learning, and calls us to look at accessibility of the overall design so that the learning environment is truly inclusive. UDL isn’t about convincing students to learn our way, and providing accommodations to those who cannot or will not; it involves designing multiple ways of knowing and multiple ways of showing from the jump so that students can learn their way.
Join us for an all-day in-person workshop to gain a deeper understanding of the core concepts of UDL 3.0 and the UDL Design Process. Through interactive activities, collaboration, and reflection, you will learn practical strategies for designing with UDL 3.0 that can work in your context.
We will then reconnect online for three, 90-minute virtual sessions across the school year to dive deeper into designing for multiple ways of knowing, multiple ways of showing, and greater learner agency.
Participants will:
- Identify the core ideas that serve as a foundation to Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Reflect on how the UDL Guidelines reduce barriers to learning and support learner agency
- Practice the UDL Design Process
- Identify and value multiple ways for learners to acquire and express knowledge
