More Poetry by Candlelight

Join us for a delightful evening of poetry from the pulpit. Antony Dunn, Charlotte Shevchenko Knight and Robert Powell will share readings to be enjoyed by candlelight.

Tickets £10 each (including a glass of wine)

Doors 7pm for a 7.30pm start (once everyone is settled in the historic pews with a glass of wine).

Performer details

Antony Dunn has published four collections of poetry, most recently Take This One to Bed (Valley Press). Winner of an Eric Gregory Award and the Newdigate Prize, he has been a regular tutor for the Arvon Foundation and the Poetry School for over twenty years and has worked on a number of translation projects with poets from Holland, Hungary, China and Israel. He has been Artistic Director of Bridlington Poetry Festival and Poet in Residence at the University of York, Ilkley Literature Festival and the People Powered Press. He lives in Leeds.

Charlotte Shevchenko Knight

Charlotte Shevchenko Knight is a poet of both British and Ukrainian heritage and lives in York. Her pamphlet Ways of Healing was a winner of the New Poets Prize. She is a recipient of an Eric Gregory Award and her book Food for the Dead is currently shortlisted for the Forward Prize 'Best First Collection'

Robert Powell

Robert Powell has published four collections of poetry - Harvest of Light (2007), All (2015) Riverain (2018), and Lost & Found (2021). He was artist in residence with the Kone Foundation in Finland in 2018, and in 2019 produced Notes From a Border River, inspired by his time in Northern Ireland during Brexit negotiations. In 2023 he was writer in residence with York Civic Trust and produced his fifth collection Time Town.

Blankets available although please do wrap up warmly. The temperature of the church inside is always lower than the temperature outside.

The church is accessible throughout save for the Sunken Chapel. Please note that light levels are low and the floor is uneven throughout.
