It has been five years since Moorpark hosted the last art festival, and nearly twenty years since the city celebrated the fruit from which it gets its name. The Moorpark Apricot (Prunus Armeniaca) is the most common apricot in the world. Alexander the Great brought it to Greece from Persia over 2,500 years ago. More than a hundred years ago, so many were grown in a small eastern Ventura County community, that the town adopted its name, and, for a while, became known as “The Apricot Capitol of the World.” While apricots have not been commercially grown in Moorpark for more than half a century, the name and community have thrived.
On the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend, the Apricot and Art Festivals combine in a celebration of all things Moorpark.
There will be music, cultural dance, food, craft beer, wine, and more.
Over sixty artists and crafters will be offering their unique creations.
●The Moorpark College Zoo will have live animal shows.
●The Moorpark Historical Society
●Moorpark Symphony
●The Chumash Museum
●The Strathern Historical Park
●The High Street Arts Center and The Moorpark Library will have lots of activities for kids from face painting to story time, to numerous interactive art projects to participate in.
This is a FREE EVENT sponsored by The Daly Group and the City of Moorpark.
It all happens Saturday, May 11th from 11:00 to 5:00 on Historic High Street.
