Join us at the Mooresville Depot as the Mooresville Museum Historic Society presents a special evening with local author and historian, David Fleming, as he discusses the fascinating origins of America's true "Cradle of Freedom" and the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence.
Fourteen months before Thomas Jefferson penned the US Declaration of Independence, a rough and ready group of intellectual men from Mecklenburg County and the surrounding area formulated their own, and likely the first, Declaration of Independence from Great Britain.
Was it truly America’s first declaration of freedom? The hints and clues are literally all around us on our driver's license, auto tags, and most notably, the North Carolina state flag.
Come hear the story, the controversy, and the history behind this legendary document that predates the National Declaration by more than a year!
This event is great for history buffs, students, families, and anyone who loves learning about our local history. Admission is FREE, and all are welcome!
A special thanks to Mooresville Arts for allowing us to utilize their space for this great meeting.
